All Weather would be a good idea...
Rain…
It’s tropical, sadly that’s the rain not the sunshine. Friday’s meeting at Pontefract is subject to an inspection….
Update: Friday Evening (5.15pm)
Newmarket- raining – soft going
Hamilton- No rain, good to firm in places
Pontefract- passed inspection but heavy rain.
I would not be backing at Pontefract…..
Friday evening’s meeting at Pontefract must pass a precautionary inspection at 4.30pm after a deluge of rain in West Yorkshire. The ground had been described as good prior to a spell of very heavy showers that are becoming more persistent with even more rain forecast.
“At the moment we are totally raceable but we have more rain forecast,” said Richard Hammill, assistant clerk of the course. “They originally said between 10 and 15 millimetres would fall this afternoon but they’ve now said we could get anywhere between 10 and 50.”We could take 10 but not 50.
Redcar on Sunday is already in doubt…
Sunday’s meeting at Redcar is in doubt due to a heavy rain, with an inspection called for 12 noon on Saturday. The Cleveland coastal track has been hit by 50 millimetres of rain since Thursday night, and more rain has been forecast.
“We’ve had a total of 50 millimetres overnight and today,” said acting clerk of the course John Sanderson. “We had 35mm by 7.30 this morning, then another 25mm by one o’clock, and it’s still been raining and there’s another 15mm forecast tomorrow.”
The ground at Newbury is softening for the big meeting on Saturday and with plenty of rain about its a nightmare for punters!
Ripon…
Saturday’s meeting at Ripon will need to pass a 7.30am precautionary inspection due to the threat of further showers. The North Yorkshire circuit has been hit by 54 millimetres of rain in less than 24 hours – and more is forecast.
“We are raceable at present, but there is more rain forecast,” said clerk of the course James Hutchinson. “It is a precautionary inspection because we’d be able to race today but if we get a lot more we could have problems. The forecasters are saying we could get as much as half an inch. It’s been incredible, it started raining at around 7pm on Thursday and we’ve had over 50 millimetres of rain.”
