I am still in awe of Sea The Stars, but living in Yorkshire I was delighted to hear that his next destination could be the International at York, a date I definitely will not miss. I made a vow on Saturday to go to his next run, to see this Champion in the flesh. I was thinking Ireland would be a long way but 12 miles to York will do just fine!
Monday’s Bets…
Strangely for a Monday there are quite a few decent bets to get stuck into today. I will be at Ripon which is a picturesque Yorkshire track where I have done pretty well over the years.
Ripon….
Acquisition (7.50) is the best bet on the card in my view with Henry Cecil booking Eddie Ahern for the filly’s handicap debut. A mark of 74 looks fair following a maiden win where she was not at all overly extended to win. It was a very poor race but her breeding suggests she should be better than this grade and I suspect she may be well handicapped.
Eddie Ahern carries our hopes aboard Eastern Warrior (9.20) who is hoping to score after hitting the crossbar three times in succession. As a three year old he gets a handy weight allowance from chief market rival Nisaal which could be the decisive factor. John Hills’ gelding should really win this race. I will also be laying Nisaal at a price that is short enough to do so.
Musselburgh…
I will have one bet elsewhere, which is the prolific Argentine (3.45) at Musselburgh. I have owned a few horses but would love one with the heart that this fellow has shown in winning four of this last six races. Carrying a penalty he can confirm form with Racoon and should have the measure of hat-trick seeking Secret Venue who is running off a four pound higher mark.
Mondays Best Bets
3.45 Musselburgh- Argentine, win
7.50 Ripon- Acquisition, win
9.20 Ripon- Eastern Warrior, win
To Lay…
9.20 Ripon- Nisaal, Lay
