Time to Make Hay in the Sunshine…
Bit of a disaster yesterday, not least at Worcester which ended in farce because of a lack of available water, at a course that spent month submerged by flood water, you have to laugh! That said if horse’s welfare was in question then the right decision was made and everyone lives to fight another day. Is’s a big weekend ahead with the Eclipse and the Steward’s Cup to look forward to.
Over Jumps…
I am back on the McCoy bandwagon again today, which makes its way to Perth for three rides. His first is at 2.20 where he teams up with Pengana who has by far the best form and should win with the minimum of fuss at a price that reflects that scenario. However, Aggies Lad (2.50) is a much more sporting price and is one I will be backing to follow up on a decisive and impressive win over fences at Killarney. Tony Martin likes a gamble, but also knows how to handle a decent horse and really places his horses well. The booking of McCoy is a statement of intent that cannot be ignored. McCoy could complete a treble, and a double for Martin, with Another Ambition (4.20), but this looks a trappy race that I am going to sidestep.
On the Flat…
This evening, on the flat, my best bet of the day is a bit shorter than I had hoped but should provide a straightforward win. Stateside (9.20) hails from the excellent Richard Fahey yard and should defy a six pounds penalty to land the hat-trick. Stateside will be running off higher marks in the near future and this is not a great race so it’s time to make hay, or indeed money, whilst the sun shines.
