Can the All Whites score against South Africa, we suspect not
Confederation Cup, South Africa Vs New Zealand is live on BBC3 at 7-30pm
South Africa looked bereft of imagination in their opening game and New Zealand looked out of their depth against Spain. We are therefore looking at a game today that is unlikely to inspire and thrill and the only bet I can heavily recommend is to trade the 0-0 at 16.5 on Betfair!
This is the game that may indicate whether Iraq or South Africa will qualify alongside Spain in Group A of the Confederation Cup and as we suggested earlier, Iraq were always the value bet. I am also disappointed that the TV schedules did not allow for the Spain game to appear as the 7-30 evening game, FIFA missed a trick there!
New Zealand are only 10 placings behind South Africa in the FIFA rankings but on the points system they are 40 points behind, so it would seem natural to take South Africa to win with home advantage. But South Africa have won only 2 from their last 12 and New Zealand have only had to beat teams like Fiji, North Caledonia and Vanuatu to become Champions of Oceania and I prefer to back the draw (at 5.8 on Betfair) and trade in play just in case one of these teams spots that the object of the game is to score a goal. Much will depend on whether Pienaar starts for South Africa.
Anybody interested in trading is welcome to check out our trading page at the top of the page.
Prediction :- A no-score bore that is probably only marginally more interesting than Coronation Street which starts at the same time!
