With a Big Weekend Ahead, We Look at a Couple of Well Handicapped Horses at Haydock…
Thank God for Mirrored! I was glad to get one on the board to end a bit of a lean spell. I am looking forward to the weekend which will be a cracker with The Temple Stakes at Haydock and no fewer than 3 Group 1 races at The Curragh, in Ireland, including the Irish 1000 Guineas and 2000 Guineas to enjoy. Before that we have to get through Friday and hopefully swell the coffers!
The official handicapping of horses is better now than ever before, so for punters finding horses that are well handicapped is not at all easy, however, I think I have found a couple today at Haydock.
At Haydock David Barron saddles Ingleby Lady (7.20) who runs in a handicap for the first time following a very good win last month in a Pontefract Maiden Race. That was her first ever run which saw her come out on top by almost 3 lengths in which, in fairness, was no more than a pretty average race. But the young filly could hardly have done it in better style that day. She was held up in behind she then found herself short of room but was then switched out wide and showed a turn of foot that saw her quickly put the race to bed and pull away from the field. The saying is that a very good horse wins first time out so lets hope that proves to be the case with Ingleby Lady.
The handicapper has given her an official mark of 80 which she can defy on ground which her breeding suggests will suit. There is no suggestion that this filly is a world beater but today, from this mark today against this field I think we have found a very well handicapped horse which is worth an investment .
Open Sesame (8.50) at Haydock reappears quickly under a penalty following winning last week at Newmarket, easily. He won by over 3 lengths despite being slowly away but soon got into top gear and bolted up and there looks to be a lot more to come from Peter Chapple-Hyam’s 3 year-old. This is definitely one to be on today and should win.
