A Low Key Start to a Big Week of Racing
I thought Fame and Glory was mightily impressive yesterday and I hope you took our advice and took 6-1 For the Derby, if you did you have twice the current market price. We will get more clues for The Derby at York this week with The Dante Stakes.
Nothing as glamorous as that today, although there is an excellent race at Windsor, a Listed contest over 1 mile at 6.50. Of the eight runners all but one has a rating over 100 so this is a competitive listed event. The one I like is Mark Johnston’s Laa Rayb, who has the highest BHB rating of the field and will have come on for his seasonal debut run at Ascot, when finishing in front of Ordnance Row who re-opposes today. Laa Rayb should stamp his class on this contest. Here is a video of Laa Rayb at Ascot (from YouTube) where you can see just how classy Laa Rayb is, winning The International Handicap at Ascot, under today’s rider Royston Ffrench..
The banker of the day looks to be Ithbaat (3.30) at Yarmouth but will be a very short price, but should win and I suggest doubling all bets with this one.
My bet of the day is at Redcar, in a modest claimer (4.20) with no fewer than 19 runners. Stonecrabstomorrow is consistent at this level and looks the one to be on today. He has form lines with many of his rivals, not least main market rival Makshoof who has the services of Jamie Spencer today, but was behind Richard Fahey’s charge last time out at Hamilton. The Fahey stable is flying at the moment and the useful Frederik Tylicki takes off a valuable 5 pounds. I think that this one could offer the best value today, on the form book Stonecrabstomorrow is the clear form pick of the day.
