No Love Lost between United and Arsenal

Manchester United v Arsenal (7.45 Sky Sports 2)

This is the first time that Manchester United and Arsenal have met in European Competition. An all English Semi-Final will ensure that the Premier League are represented once again in the Champion’s League Final.  The first leg is at Old Trafford and Manchester United are the favourites

The statistics certainly support United.

Please Note that these prices are to win the match in 90 Minutes not the tie. The Betfair Betting Exchange prices are 1.86 to tin the tie and 1.64 to qualify.

Arsenal will take heart from the United game with Spurs where The Reds showed that they are vulnerable in some areas.  Theo Walcott will certainly be looking to emulate Aaron Lennon who readily got the better of Patrice Evra in the first half. Arsene Wenger will not have missed that one!

United defended well against Porto with Ferdinand and Vidic being a solid partnership that may be the key. There is no doubt that United can score goals, with Rooney and Ronaldo both on form at finding the net with eye catching goals in recent games. They are the key to this game. Ferguson has shown that The Champions League is his top priority and the legacy by which he will be judged, indeed he wants to win two more Champions League trophies before hanging up his managerial stripes.

United will be looking to win and g to The Emirates for the second leg with a lead. United will go all out and are a good bet to win. I can not see it finishing 0-0 and I can not see Arsenal getting a win.

Therefore laying Arsenal on Betfair may be the best option as far as the result goes. Arsenal are 5.3 to Lay.

This is the preffered bet, but history favours United.

Man Utd have won 5 of the last 6 matches played at Old Trafford. The goal tally is 11 to United and 3 to Arsenal. That is an average of just under 2 goals per game for the home team with Arsenal struggling to score, with one game every two games. Manchester United should add to that tally tonight. The correct score, statistically at least is looking like 1-0 (6.8 Betfair) or 2-0 (9.6 Betfair) to United. You can back under 2.5 total goals at 1.76 on Betfair which looks solid given recent head to head scorelines.

The odds either team keeping a clean sheet are odds against- Arsenal are 4.5 and United 2.38. Given the statistics that 2.38 looks a worthy investment. Take the 2.38 on Betfair.

Over the years there have been some bad tempered affairs, including a full blown brawl. A sending off is 4.7 on Betfair, though I am not inclined to take it it would not be the biggest shock in history if there was one!

United should win the game setting up a thrilling second leg at The Emirates Stadium.
