Delegator, a three year old colt by Dansili is trained at Manton by Brian Meehan. Delegator is now favourite for next Saturday’s 2000 Guineas after Delegator won the Craven Stakes, also run at Newmarket.
Delegator has now ran four times in his career, all at Newmarket, it is as if he has been aimed at the 2000 Guineas since being a two year-old.
Delegator was second in his debut maiden to a nice horse, then came back to Newmarket to win with the minimum of fuss. Jamie Spencer then took the ride in the Dewhurst where Delegator finished fifth, with Intense Focus winning. This one is trained by Jim Bolger in Ireland who trained New Approach last year.
Delegator showed he was a different, stronger and better horse as a three year-old when he returned to Newmarket for the Craven Stakes. Jamie Spencer held Delegator up at the back then asked Delegator to quicken up which he did readily to win going away. Delegator’s times indicate that was a good run and the horse was made a worthy favoutrite for the 2000 Guineas.
So can Delegator win the 2000 Guineas?
We took a chance based on the positive reports prior to the Craven and advised that readers back Delegator for the 2000 Guineas. Certainly he is a worthy 8-1 shot. Confidence amongst Delegator’s connections is high. Brian Meehan, Delegator’s trainer says that Delegator is the horse to beat on 2000 Guineas Day. Jamie Spencer believes that Delegator has what it takes to win the 2000 Guineas.
Jamie Spencer must have Delegator closer to the pace. He will not be able to come from too far back, a point stressed by Meehan. It is the final furlong where the 2000 Guineas is won and lost, but much can depend on what happens in the first furlong.
Racing Diary is delighted with the 8-1 about Delegator for the 2000 Guineas and would still recommend readers to back Delegator to win the 2000 Guineas now!
