1000 and 2000 Guineas Antepost Betting Focus

Rainbow View is very solid for the 1000 Guineas

With the Craven meeting attention focuses much more of the first Classics of the season. The 1000 Guineas for three year-old Fillies and the 2000 Guineas for 3 year old colts. Both are run at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and will take place on the 2nd of May ( 2000 Guineas ) and 3rd May ( 1000 Guineas ).  They are vastly contrasting marketing this year and require different approaches.

Lets kick off with the fillies. The 1000 Guineas, where Rainbow View is at the head of the market and is a warm order at 2.88 on Betfair, which is 7/4 in old money. She is undefeated and showed her class in the Group One Fillies Mile on her final start as a two year old, beaten Fantasia who is a runner in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket’s Craven Meeting Wednesday.  She was made favourite over the winter for the 1000 Guineas and has remained there ever since.

She looked head and shoulders above any other filly. Can we oppose her for the 1000 Guineas ? The best person to ask is the Trainer. My problem with John Gosden is he is a bit cautious when giving information, usually, but he has come across as bullish about this filly. He says she is wild and has said Serious Attitude would be his main danger.  Rae Guest’s filly is undefeated in her three starts and is a Group One winner of the Cheevely Park Stakes at Newmarket . Rainbow View has been visually more impressive but Serious Attitude is certainly a better price. We will be short of clues as it seems both fillies will be heading straight for the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.  The running of Fantasia is of huge importance in Wednesdays Craven Meeting Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes.

I am a believer in backing your judgement and from what I saw, Rainbow View is a very good Filly and One to Back, Now for the 1000 Guineas.

Backing in the 2000 Guineas with a Free Bet certainly looks the best idea.  Unlike the 1000 Guineas the 2000 Guineas is very difficult to say the least. There was no Superstar last year like with the fillies and we are very much in the dark. The first port of call is always for me to see what Ballydoyle have to offer. Aiden O’Brien dominated the Group One scene in 2008 and it is Mastercraftsman who heads the market for the 2000 Guineas.

aidenobrien1Mastercraftsman looked hugely impressive in his first four starts winning a Group One in Ireland but he then went to France for a Group One and was beaten, comprehensively with Naaqoos winning. She ran on Good Friday in France and was well beaten.  The ground was Good to Soft, but he won in Ireland on Heavy  ground. For me he is under 5-1 and is too short. He will be fit and ready but I would not be backing him at that price. I would even be tempted to lay the 2000 Guineas Favourite now at that price. Aiden O’Brien also has second favourite Rip Van Winkle who I like more.

Remember the 2008 2000 Guineas. Henrythenavigator was not the Ballydoyle first string in the betting yet Murtagh managed to be aboard and win. That will be what I look for on the day, who Murtagh rides.

Delegator is the Buzz horse for the 2000 Guineas. Brian Meehans Horse is a 10-1 shot and will run at Newmarket in the Craven Stakes on Thursday. I hear he is burning up the gallops and I want to be on him at that price each way, that is for sure.
